Batter up! Orbit, the Houston Astros mascot, poses with a young fan during a back-to-school event hosted by Chevron.
For Chevron and the Houston Astros, “teamwork makes the dream work” isn’t just a catchy phrase. It’s proof that powerful partnerships can hit a home run for the hometown community.
stepping up to the plate
In 2019, Chevron and the Astros Foundation teamed up to launch Wins for Kids, a program that helps Houston’s youth reach their full potential through their love of baseball. The initiative is simple: Every time the Astros win a game, Chevron and the Astros contribute $500 each toward a local youth organization for a minimum of $50,000 each per season.
To date, our partnership has helped raise more than $300,000. In other words, a win for the Astros is a win for Houston’s youth.
Wins for Kids helps young Houstonians reach their full potential through their love of baseball.
a league of fun
At the 2022 Wins for Kids Back to School Celebration, around 100 children from Houston-area organizations practiced their baseball skills with the Astros Youth Academy, made STEM discoveries and wrote letters to their favorite Astros players.
Orbit, the Astros’ mascot, stopped by to get the kids excited about returning to school. Each child also received a backpack full of classroom essentials.
